I find myself day dreaming back to those moments during this years Vermont 100.. ALL of those moments. All that made it the day that it was, the success I had and the many sacrifices I had to make to reach the finish line in 22:48. I am still in minimal shock at the accomplishment that was my finish time at Vermont.. yet, happy with the outcome given the amount of dedication and soul I poured into the process. As September comes to a close and October rears it head, I'm once again finding myself thinking of the next big thing.
I know I've outlined my goals for 2014 in a previous post, but this one is about getting serious. Making the commitment to actually push for something "real" in 2014. Redemption. Just like in Leadville 2011, redeeming myself after a 2010 DNF. I am now setting my sights firmly on two major events in 2014 and two minor goals along the way.
- Return to Kansas' Rockin' K in April and finish in the Top 5.
- Run the Miwok 100K in California, providing I get in via lottery, in May.
The Main Events:
- Return to the Big Horn 100 in Wyoming and finish what I started in 2012, redeem my DNF.
- Run the Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier in Washington State sometime in Late August/Early September.

Things are different again. I have a full time salaried job that takes up quite a bit of my time. I now need to find a way to balance family, work, life and running. Keep the weight I lost off, and get into even better shape then I was before. Reach 150 lbs and 145 lbs at best while returning to the gym and hardening up my core for extended miles. Return to the mountains, and hike in preparation for the two main events.
2014 is going to be another epic year. I have much to prepare for and time is on my side. I've been very careful since Vermont to rest, recover, enjoy myself, continue with little fulfilling adventures and not get burned out. Now is the time to start the cogs again and get the gears turning. I hope you'll all once again join me for the ride.
