June11

This past month of June was as epic a month as I can remember. After settling into my new apartment here in Boulder County, I was able to also settle into the surroundings. This includes the people, the history, the trails and the culture as a whole. As June came to a close, I also closed in on the half-way point of my internship all ready. I need to work 400 hours at the company I'm with and by the end of this upcoming week, I'll have hit 200. While I've worked hard in with the internship and the area in general, I've also worked hard on my running.

Heading into this month, what of a year I was piecing together was a sorry excuse for a training regime. Just over 100 miles in January after I put together a streak of days run. My shin hurt and I complained about it all through the winter. November and December never broke 60 miles for either month, 42 miles total for February, 78 for March. 48 for April and 79 for May. It hasn't looked good heading into the summer with Leadville rearing it's ugly head. I knew I had no choice but to pour it on for the entire month of June.

At the end of June I've run 127 miles.. all training. I didn't run a single race to accumulate those miles and it's the first time since 2009 where I've run so many miles in one month solely from training alone. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am. I also have to mention that as it's the eve of another diet detox to try and lose more weight, I managed to lose 9 pounds in June from exercise alone. I weighed in this week at 167.2 pounds.. a weight I haven't seen since July 2009. To put the cheery on top, the pain in my shine as completely disappeared.

I'm beginning to feel like that well oiled machine again. I haven't felt this good and ready to race since 2009. I signed up for the Silver Rush 50 Miler in Leadville to put what training I've done to the test. I'm running faster and more efficiently and I'm starting to feel ready to go. I'm incredibly excited, that as expected, my running base has served me well. July will be no different then June, even with Silver Rush coming up in 2 weeks. Pouring it on, getting ready for the big dance.. I can't wait to run through Twin Lakes II with my middle finger raised high.

Hey... Happy 4th everyone. In case you were wondering, in God Bless America where we sing "for purple mountains majesty" it really exists. Sunset, almost every night. Enjoy the HOliday and God Bless America

Happy Trails
